Answer to Question 1

BH is not going to feel like eating if she knows that it will result in diarrhea. However, for her colon to heal, it is important that she eat well, particularly protein. If she is not totally on liquids, she should try easily digested, well-cooked food that she chews very well. She should supplement her meals with appropriate liquid supplements. If diarrhea continues, an elemental feeding may be in order.

Answer to Question 2

BEE = 655 + 9.6  wt + 1.7  ht - 4.7  age
= 655 + 9.6  45.9 + 1.7  160  4.7  22
= 655 + 440.6 + 272  103.4
= 1264
T = 102 F 102  98.6 = 3.4

 of degrees F elevated  7 =  BEE is to be increased
3.4  7 = 23.8

1264  .238 = 300.8

Total BEE = 1264 + 300.8 or 1565 kcals
