Answer to Question 1

Hemodialysis is a catabolic process, requiring additional kcals and protein. It is frequently difficult to keep patient's serum albumin up on hemodialysis.

Answer to Question 2

The advantages are the kcals provided and, for Mr. G, the enjoyment of eating lots of high-fat junk food that his previous recall indicated he liked. Disadvantages include possible atherosclerosis and hyperglycemia.
