Answer to Question 1

BEE = 655 + 9.6 x wt + 1.7 x ht - 4.7 x age
= 655 + 9.6 x 70 + 1.7 x 167.6 - 4.7 x 54
= 655 + 672 + 284.9 - 253.8
= 1358 kcals

The stress factor for cancer will vary according to your reference. Most agree on 1.5 times the BEE for weight gain. Each case is different and has to be evaluated individually. I would use 1.5 x the BEE for this case.

Total kcals = BEE x 1.5 = 1358 x 1.5 = 2037 kcals

Answer to Question 2

Mr. Y received morphine which can cause peristalsis to cease. This, along with the stress of his condition, could cause the ileus.
