Prothrombin is a protein that is synthesized in the liver and is necessary for proper blood clotting. As liver function decreases, the ability to make prothrombin decreases and the prothrombin time increases.

Pain similar to that of angina pectoris but may radiate through the neck to the jaw and/or down the left arm. Rapid heart rate, rapid breathing, diaphoresis, and anxiety are frequently evident.
