Why would the MD order a protein restriction of .7 g/kg of IBW? Explain.

Question 2

If GG were to be hospitalized for an extended period of time and required a tube feeding via duodenum or jejunum, what characteristics would be appropriate for the tube feeding you would use?

Answer to Question 1

Some researchers believe that patients who are losing protein through the urine during the early stages of renal disease will increase their losses if the dietary protein increases. They also believe that with lower protein intakes, the urinary losses will decrease to such a degree that there will be a net gain of protein in the body.

Answer to Question 2

Since the G tract below the stomach should be functioning appropriately, a special formula should not be necessary. GG will need adequate protein and kcals for healing.
