No, he would not. Gastric partitioning is major surgery. Most surgeons would not touch TB because of the large risk involved with the healing process of morbid obesity.

Answer to Question 2

Glucose could be high 2o to nonfasting and/or stress in addition to diabetes. A fasting value should be obtained after the patient settles down.

His PaCO2 is high, indicating he is retaining CO2 . This is probably due to his inability to ventilate properly 2o to his massive size. This causes pH to drop and HCO3- to decrease.
