Answer to Question 1

Headaches, fatigue, and dizziness are the most frequent. The symptoms will subside with time. Hair loss may result in the middle of the fast even though the patient is receiving a high-protein diet.

Answer to Question 2

He may have to start with using light-weight barbells while sitting or supine. He should be walking as much as physically possible, possibly do swimming and/or light water aerobics, or riding a stationary bike if there was one he could sit on.
