Answer to Question 1

Just because a medication is listed as possibly causing one of the side effects above, it does not mean that all of the side effects mentioned will occur. However, when several medications can cause the same side effect, and that side effect occurs, it becomes difficult to tell if the effect is a new symptom or a result of medication. For example, several medications could cause edema and Mrs. SJ is taking Lasix to prevent edema. She is also taking medication to prevent arrhythmias and medication that causes arrhythmias. Her depression, gastritis, anemia, and dizziness could also be discussed. Thus, it is highly likely that some of the symptoms Mrs. SJ is experiencing are due to side effects of her medications.

Answer to Question 2

Perimolysis is the disappearance of the substance of teeth with gross loss of enamel. This can be caused by continual exposure of the teeth to the acid from gastric fluid.
