 a. veins outside portal circulation dilate, leading to fluid leaking out of the vascular system into the abdominal cavity.
  b. activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone mechanism that leads to additional pooling of fluid.
  c. hyperalbuminemia.
  d. portal hypertension.
