Calcium intake is a concern for teenage girls because they often have inadequate intakes of cal-cium-rich foods. Iron, not calcium, is lost from the body during menstruation. Adolescent girls and boys have the same calcium needs. Lactose intolerance is not especially common in adoles-cent girls.
