Answer to Question 1

A
Feedback:
Cigarette smokers are advised to increase their intake by 35 mg/day because smoking increases oxidative stress and metabolic turnover of vitamin C.

Answer to Question 2

1
Rationale: Niacin, taken in large doses, can cause GI distress and aggravate peptic ulcer disease, so the nurse should be concerned about heartburn or abdominal discomfort. Flushing and warmth are a normal side effect of niacin consumption. Pale skin is not associated with niacin consumption. Diarrhea might occur with a niacin deficiency.
