Answer to Question 1

C
Nutrients need to be absorbed to be truly inside the body. When they are swallowed and even when they are digested, they are inside the gastrointestinal tract, but have not crossed through the walls to enter the body. Metabolism occurs after nutrients are absorbed and part of the body.

Answer to Question 2

3
Rationale: Protein has nitrogen molecules that are released to the kidneys during digestion. Nitrogen puts added stress on the kidneys to excrete it. Protein alone does not contribute to weight gain, which is a function of caloric intake exceeding caloric expenditure. Edema may result from inadequate intake. Clients with kidney disease need more carbohydrate and fat.
