Answer to Question 1

B, D, E
Feedback:
Whole grains provide B vitamins, vitamin E, fiber, folate, minerals, phytochemicals, and fatty acids. They have been implicated in providing benefits such as improvements in glucose-insulin homeostasis; decreasing LDL cholesterol; and lowering the incident of CHD, diabetes, and possibly strokes.

Answer to Question 2

3
Rationale: Protein digestion and absorption take place in the stomach and small intestine; therefore the nurse will not need to be concerned that this client will be unable to digest protein. There are some religious prohibitions about consuming meat and dairy together, but eating them at the same meal does not cause indigestion. The client will need to consume additional protein during the post-operative period to promote healing, but special teaching about digestion will not be necessary.
