Answer to Question 1

1, Protein is essential for tissue growth; 2, Consistent lack of protein impairs the immune system; 5, Protein is composed of amino acids.
Rationale: A child is in an anabolic state and protein is essential for tissue growth all through adolescence. Consistent lack of protein does impair the immune system. Protein is necessary for optimum functioning of the immune system. When there are depleted protein stores, the immune system does not respond efficiently, leaving the individual more vulnerable to infections. Protein is the least efficient source of energy which is why it should be the smallest percentage of a balanced diet. Meat is one source of protein; vegetarians can get all amino acids and protein from non-meat sources. All protein is composed of amino acids, which include nitrogen.

Answer to Question 2

C
Feedback:
Amino acids are the basic building blocks of all proteins and the end products of protein digestion.
