In order to testify about the accuracy of their notes or transcript, in order to impeach a witness, or in order to inquire into certain circumstances surrounding the testimony of a witness.

Answer to Question 2

When shorthand notes are used, some reporters use a special device to mark their notes, others will put a paper clip or small piece of paper within their notes. Most realtime or computerized shorthand machines now have the capability of marking spots within notes.
