Answer to Question 1

This type of molded packing is called Automatic because internal air or fluid pressure forces the lips of this type of packing to seal against some hard surface, usually a cylinder.

Answer to Question 2

O-ring failure usually occurs as a result of installation mistakes, damaged O-ring or groove, poorly prepared sealing surfaces, and incorrect O-ring material for application.
