LDLs carry most of the cholesterol to the cells, where it contributes to atherosclerosis. HDLs carry cholesterol to the liver for excretion. James has a low amount of HDL. He should be on a low-fat, low saturated fat, and low-cholesterol diet. He will also most likely need medication to help control his cholesterol levels.
