Answer to Question 1

When hyperglycemia occurs, the glucose cannot enter the cells and accumulates in the blood. The body draws water from the cells to the blood in an attempt to equalize the concentration. The loss of the cellular fluid causes the client to experience polydipsia.

Answer to Question 2

The salts are soluble in water. Therefore, use as little water as possible, steam the foods, or save the excess water and use it in gravies, soups, or other sauces.
