Answer to Question 1

Amino acid supplements usually supply one given amino acid at a much higher level or proportion than would normally be found in the diet. The body needs to absorb 9 essential amino acids from foods. The amino acid transporter mechanisms in the small intestine are shared among several amino acids. If any one amino acid is present in excessively high levels, it may block the absorption of other essential amino acids. Ammonia can also build up from the excess breakdown of the wasted amino acids, and this can lead to fatigue. A balanced diet can provide foods with ample amounts of essential amino acids in optimal proportions for the body to take up.
