Answer to Question 1

High-protein diets may include a lot of meats, dairy products, and added fats in place of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. This will increase the intake of saturated fat, which could increase blood LDL levels. High-fat diets are low in fiber, which may affect the health of the digestive system as well as blood LDL levels. The body needs an ample amount of carbohydrates to spare proteins and prevent amino acid wasting. Also, intakes of the many vitamins and minerals abundant in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains would be inadequate.
A vegetarian may try a high-protein diet including nuts, nut butters, and dairy products (if desired or tolerated). Again, fiber, vitamins, and minerals may be lacking if this individual does not eat adequate amounts of fruits, vegetables, or whole grains.
