The use of vegetable oils and soft margarines low in saturated fat and trans fatty acids instead of butter or most other animal fats is recommended. The recommendations also include reducing intake of sugar-sweetened beverages and foods and reducing salt intake. For children ages 23 years, 3035 percent of total energy from fat is recommended.
