Answer to Question 1

Individual consequences of malnutrition can be
profound. When experienced during pregnancy,
malnutrition can deplete the mother's nutritional stores
and increase the risk of having a low-birth-weight baby
and of neonatal death. Malnutrition in children leads to
impaired growth and can have long-term health effects.
Societal consequences of malnutrition include reduced
work capacity and therefore lower worker productivity
overall.
