Answer to Question 1

Malnutrition during pregnancy depletes the mother's maternal stores and increases risk of a LBW baby. Poor maternal nutrition status can increase risk of neonatal death. When a child is mildly underweight, risk of death increases 2.5 times. If a child is severely underweight the risk of death is even greater. Malnutrition seriously affects a child's growth and development. 24 of children under the age of 5 are estimated to have stunted growth.

Answer to Question 2

Hunger, malnutrition, and other adverse societal outcomes (displacement from home, urbanization, increased population, lack of education, gender inequality). Major consequence: malnutrition.
