Answer to Question 2

Regular exercise may help enhance the health of the blood vessels that supply blood to all areas of the brain. Many studies have shown that regular physical activity may increase the elasticity of blood vessels. This improved blood vessel function increases the flow of oxygen to the brain tissue as well as needed glucose for energy. The neuronal tissue of the brain uses a lot of oxygen and glucose to generate the electrical and chemical signals needed for mental and nervous system activity. If the hippocampus has a good blood supply, the cells will have the oxygen and glucose needed to function better. The hippocampus is important for memory. Solid memory function gives a person a frame of reference from which to relate all of their experiences from the past and present.
