Answers regarding nutritional risks for middle childhood children could include the need to increase intake of whole fruit, whole grains, dark green and orange vegetables and legumes. They also need to decrease intake of saturated fat, sodium, and extra calories from solid fats and added sugars. Overweight and obesity are major issues.
Answers regarding nutritional risks for adolescents could include high intakes of saturated fat, total fat, sodium, calories, and soft drinks and inadequate consumption of fruits, vegetables, fiber, and calcium. Overweight, obesity, smoking, disordered body image, low levels of physical activity, and disordered eating are major issues for this age group.
Answers regarding nutritional risks for older adults could include a need to increase intake of whole grains, dark green and orange vegetables, legumes, and dairy foods. In addition, there is a need to consume fewer foods high in saturated fats, sugars, and sodium. Also their intake of zinc, iron, folate, and antioxidants are often inadequate.
