A classic example of a drugnutrient interaction resulting in harmful side effects is the interaction between pressor agents in foods (tyramine, dopamine, histamine, phenylethylamine) and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). This interaction can result in sudden increases in blood pressure with resulting complications.
