Primary Healthy People 2020 topic areas for adults include reducing the prevalence of and the overall number of people who suffer from diseases such as arthritis, osteoporosis, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and kidney disease. Other age-specific goals include increasing the number of older persons receiving pneumonia and influenza vaccinations and colorectal cancer screenings, along with increasing daily physical activity and cardio- vascular health. Examples of areas related to nutrition and weight status include increasing the proportion of physician office visits made by patients with a diagnosis of heart disease, diabetes, or hyper lipidemia that include counseling or education related to diet and nutrition; increasing the proportion of work sites that offer nutrition or weight-management classes or counseling; increasing the proportion of adults who are at a healthy weight; and reducing household food insecurity and in so doing reducing hunger.
