In 1978, the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund jointly established the goal of the world community to protect and promote the health of all people of the world.. The commitment was re-affirmed in 1998, and in 2002, the World Summit on Sustainable Development highlighted that health was both a resource for and an outcome of sustainable development.
