Answer to Question 1

Natural disasters, including earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and floods, can have serious effects no matter where they occur but are particularly harmful in least developed countries. The local economy and infrastructure tend to be unstable in least developed countries, and people who lose their homes to disasters are often left wandering, destitute, and unable to relocate to less affected areas. Those who survive disasters are then faced with a second crisis: shortages of food, clean water, and shelter. A lack of infrastructure and extensive damage make the delivery of recovery supplies difficult, increasing food insecurity. Supplies that get through are often too expensive even for those with some funds. The destruction of sites for raising crops and animals further increase the seriousness of the situation.
