Answer to Question 1

ANS: T
As the earths crust was displaced (upward) gravity pulled the water crest downward and an
oscillating ocean surface generated progressive waves that radiated from the epicenter of the
earthquake in all directions. The Japan event was the fourth largest earthquake ever recorded and is
associated with subduction. Water Displacement Causes Tsunami and Seismic Sea Waves.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: T
The orbits which the water particles move begin to diminish. These orbits get smaller rapidly with
depth. Information can be found in the section Waves Move Energy Across the Sea Surface.
