Hassan al-Banna in the early 1900s started the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Sayyid Qutb, also in the early 1900s, is called the father of modern terrorism and used the ideological beliefs of al-Banna and the Muslim Brotherhood to develop revolutionary arms throughout the Middle East. Fathi Shaqaqi formed the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) from the Gaza Strip and gained support from Syria and Iran. Dr. Ramadan Abdallah Shalah became the leader of PIJ.
