Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
Hold a child with cerebral palsy in your lap, have the childs legs straddle one of yours and hold the child around the middle. Sitting on the floor, cross-legged is not recommended; instead, have the child sit with legs in front and together, bent at the knee if the child has variable muscle tone, straight if the muscle tone is tight. Sitting in a W position with knees forward and a foot on either side of the body is particularly disadvantageous for the child.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Selective posterior rhizotomy is used to reduce spasticity in some children with spastic diplegia. Some children with spasticity and rigidity have found drugs such as diazepam (Valium) useful. Newer therapy allows for the direct delivery of antispasticity medication (baclofen) directly into the spinal fluid using a concept similar to the insulin pump used in diabetes.
