Answer to Question 1

Tightening of airways and muscles causes difficulty breathing. In addition to shortness of breath, an increase in breathing rate can occur, and the child may be either irritable or listless. The child may also have a more rapid speech pattern, dark circles under the eyes, and a fever. Wheezing, coughing, and spitting up of mucus may also occur.
