Answer to Question 1

The first priority is to value diversity. Once that is done, a teacher should examine his or her own cultural background, attitudes, beliefs, and guidelines for behavior. This will help to bring down any barriers and to understand any personal bias. The teacher should then focus on personal interaction, understanding family actions, and integrating diversity into the early childhood education environment.

Answer to Question 2

Healthy development is more than the absence of disease. This type of development includes helping children resist infections, adapt to the challenges of daily life, cope with adversity, and have a personal sense of well-being.
