Answer to Question 1

Some believe written letter activities distract and/or confuse preschoolers and that oral phonemic awareness activities are the only ones that are appropriate. Other educators believe written letters should be integrated into instruction because of the interrelatedness of the language arts areas and that children will naturally want their ideas put into writing (print). They also suggest that young children see alphabet letters all around them and are curious about them.
