Pattern A represents the woman who works before she marries, then has children and never returns to the workplace. Pattern B represents the woman who works continuously over her lifetime. Pattern C represents the woman who works until she has children. After her children are born, she takes a period of time away from work, but returns when it will not conflict with her family responsibilities. Pattern D represents the woman who remains in the labor force continuously but takes short periods of time out to have children.
