Write the following as an equation, using x for the unknown number. Then When 3 times a number is subtracted from 7 times the number, the result is 28. Find the number.
◦ 3(x - 7) = 28x;  1.2
◦ 3x + 7x = 28;  4
◦ 7x - 3x = 28;  7
◦ 3x(7 - x) = 28;  -7

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
