 General risk factor  increased risk for the developmental of a psychological disorder; many possible outcomes
 Example  abuse places a child at risk for developing conduct disorder, anxiety disorder, mood disorder, etc.
 Specific risk factor  increased risk for the development of a specific psychological disorder
 Example  highly reactive/inhibited children are more at risk for developing anxiety disorders
