Why do Kipsigi infants rarely sleep more than 3 hours straight, day or night, for the first year of life?
◦ They do not sleep in a separate room and therefore siblings wake them up throughout the night.
◦ They doze on their mother's back throughout the day and feed often at night.
◦ Because of the high rates of infant mortality in the Kipsigi culture, mothers wake their infants often to make sure they are still alive.
◦ Kipsigi adults rarely sleep more than 3 hours straight.
