Answer to Question 1

Like progressive relaxation training, some individuals have anxiety reactions. These anxiety reactions may take the form of myoclonic jerks, spasms, twitches, or restlessness known as autogenic discharges.. Anxiety issues may result from unfamiliarity with the relaxation experience or with concerns about loss of control. These issues need to be addressed if they arise in order for the training to be successful.

Answer to Question 2

Like progressive muscle relaxation training, autogenic training may be introduced in abbreviated or modified forms. For example, autogenic training is sometimes combined with biofeedback in an attempt to enhance its effectiveness. The specific phrases used may be altered slightly and diaphragmatic breathing may also be introduced to enhance relaxation.
