Answer to Question 1

a . Habits are largely governed by the automatic processing system. Once behavior is habitual, it rarely has to be deliberately, or consciously, considered.
b. The deliberate system may be part of the acquisition of habits, but as the behaviors are performed over and over they become automated.
c. Although some habits may be bad habits, this is not true of all habits. Habits are necessary because they free up cognitive resources, allowing the deliberate system to concentrate on other matters. This allows us to do more activities each day with less struggle.
