Answer to Question 1

Both good and bad moods can lead to increased helping. When in good moods, positive
thoughts become more accessible, leading to more consideration of helping others. In
addition, people in good moods may help more in order to maintain these moods.
Alternatively, people in bad moods may help more in order to remove their guilt or to rid
themselves of the bad moods. This is known as the negative state relief model. It
should be noted, however, that bad moods only tend to increase helping in adults and
older children.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
