Both good and bad moods can lead to increased helping. When in good moods, positive
thoughts become more accessible, leading to more consideration of helping others. In
addition, people in good moods may help more in order to maintain these moods.
Alternatively, people in bad moods may help more in order to remove their guilt or to rid
themselves of the bad moods. This is known as the negative state relief model. It
should be noted, however, that bad moods only tend to increase helping in adults and
older children.
