The empathic joy hypothesis suggests that a person who helps another enjoys the positive reactions shown by others whom they help. An example of this is illustrated in the feeling one gets after bestowing a gift upon another person, especially one you care about, and seeing that person smile and show pleasure as a result of receiving the gift.
