Answer to Question 1

Good essays will point out that the parent-infant bond is not dependent on contact
immediately at birth. Humans are much more variable with regard to the age and
circumstances of bonding.

Answer to Question 2

The major factors that contribute to the potential risk of harm to the fetus posed by
teratogens include the timing and amount of exposure, and the genetic vulnerability
of the fetus. If a teratogen is introduced during a critical period for a body structure,
the risk of harm is increased. The amount of exposure may increase risk because of
a teratogen's threshold effect. When level of teratogen exposure crosses the
threshold, damage is more likely. The risk of harm also depends on the genes of
each individual fetus and their vulnerability.
