Answer to Question 1

C

Answer to Question 2

At birth, neonates are able to recognize the difference in sounds used in all human languages. They can be trained to respond differently to different types of sounds, as apparent in habituation studies where they suck harder when exposed to new language stimuli. As infants develop, they lose the ability to detect the sounds of languages they have not been exposed to. Infants also learn to ignore differences in small, meaningless sounds in their native language.
