Answer to Question 1

Many same-sex couples are also running into difficulties if they want to get a divorce in a state that doesn't recognize same-sex marriages. Moreover, because same-sex marriage is still a relatively new legal concept, same-sex divorces are more expensive than for heterosexual couples. Attorneys must spend more time unraveling issues such as when the gay partners' legal commitments began and who owns which assets.
