Answer to Question 1

Answer: When readers are potentially skeptical or hostile, consider using the indirect approach to logically build toward your conclusion or recommendation. If you guide readers along a rational path toward the answer, they are more likely to accept it when they encounter it. The two most common logical approaches are known as the 2 + 2 = 4 approach, in which you convince readers by demonstrating that everything adds up to your conclusion, and the yardstick approach, in which you use a number of criteria to decide which option to select from two or more possibilities.
