An accountant often eats lunch at a restaurant that is 3/8 mile from her office. She makes the walk in 7 1/2 minutes. At the same rate, how long will it take her to walk the two miles from her home to her office?

Answer to Question 1

2 3/8 = 2/1  8/3 = 16/3; 16/3  7 1/2 = 16/3  15/2 = 40 minutes;
Or, alternatively, 7 1/2 3/8 = 15/2  8/3 = 20 minutes per mile;
20 minutes per mile  2 miles = 40 minutes

Answer to Question 2

1,600  0.03  2 = 96; 1,600 + 96 = 1,696
