Answer to Question 1

Excessive number of CGG repeats blocks the function of the gene such that no gene product is produced, which then interferes with the formation and function of synapses within the nervous system, causing mental retardation.

Answer to Question 2

Digestion of the mucosa by the gastric acid juice starts as a small superficial erosion of the gastric or duodenal mucosa. Gastric acid and pepsin digest the deeper tissues that have been denuded of their covering epithelium. This results in inflammation that may eventually result in scar formation at the base of the ulcer.
